Australia killed 737 million farm animals in 2022
Total number of livestock slaughters grew 2.9% compared to year prior.

Australia slaughtered 737 million farm animals in 2022, including 698 million chickens, 27 million sheep and lambs, 6 million cattle and calves, and 5 million pigs.
The total number of farm animals being slaughtered continues to grow, up 2.9% compared to the previous year.
Over 28 farm animals were slaughtered for meat per Australian.
On average, two million farm animals are being killed for meat every day in this country.
The number of live exports fell sharply to 1.1 million animals in 2022, representing a 27% decrease from the year prior.
